Katie's Cancer Blog

I guess bad news is better than no news...

Well I am at home sick today and have an appointment with my doc tomorrow so I plan to get meds to get rid of this crud. It seems to be going around more than ever! To top off not feeling well I got a call from my case manager from the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Tulsa and they declined me for care because I have terrible insurance. I think maybe I wouldn’t have taken it so bad if I was feeling better but who knows. I feel so defeated and I am not sure what to do next? Is M D Anderson good? If so how do I go about getting there?
Thank you all for your support and making me feel welcome into this giant warm family. I definantly feel the love and already feel a boost of happiness!

Katie :)

Some days it is very hard to remain upbeat. Some days everything just goes bad. But don’t give up! Don’t let fear overrun you. Talk to your doctor, find people in your area who are going through what you are facing and know they are surviving and talk to them. You can beat this!

Be calmed…and well

Mac

Katie:
First of all ignore the 1st comment, looks like spam to me! I’m with Mac, talk to your doctor tomorrow about, 1)getting better from whatever you’ve got, and 2)about a possible referral to MDAnderson. He can send you down there. If he is resistant, you can go online to MD Anderson website and click on make an appointment (or self referral) it will walk you through on getting an appointment. You do not have to have a referral. It takes a few weeks to get in but they are really good about moving quickly. Read my blog on MDA,,,it is ranked the #1 cancer hospital in the US! If you have any questions please feel free to ask me..If I don’t have the answers for you I’ll find someone who you can talk to.
But remember the 1st thing you need to do…get better! Take care.

MD Anderson is the best! It does take a few weeks to get in, but in the meantime they’re collecting all your records and slides and such. Like tmay said, you can just go to the website. But once you get there you can get a “guide.” They’re volunteers that will get you around the hospital and help explain how things work around there. Good luck! XOXO

Thanks so much for the advice! Yall are awesome! May day has really turned around now with the love and support!

Hi Katie
may your angels walk with u through these difficult times which are all part of this process this cancer journey and i agree with Mac and the others and go onward from there!
blessings to your journey!

Katie, How could I not like you… My daughter’s birthday is today. Her name is Katy & yes she has cancer too. Breast cancer in 2001 & again in 2003. She has been thru a lot, but she’s a trooper, fighting all the way. Like mother, like daughter. Most kids say they don’t want to be like their mom, but in this case I’m glad she is… STRONG! So are you, but you don’t know just how strong you really are, yet! I thought about cancer treatment centers of am. Boy would they LAUGH AT ME I had “NO” Ins. But Katie, who needs them. There are other roads, that lead to recovery! Keep looking & stay STRONG….
HFH….... Sandy

Thank you so much Sandy! The words of encouragement are great and your right! Just when I feel like I can’t do it anymore something inside me tells me to make 2 more calls and boom maybe that call will be the one! You’re a great mom I can tell, you comfort me just like my mom would. Your daughter is very lucky!

HFH! :)

Katie

Hi, Katie.
I wanted to welcome you, and I am sorry that you have to join the club especially at such young age. MD Anderson, I believe, is one of the very best in the nation. I would definitely talk to a doctor and/or health insurance company to see if you can go there for treatment or even just for a second opinion.

Hi Katie,

Please stay upbeat! I am going through this for the 4th time. I had been diagnosed for the 1st time at 19 then relapsed at 22, 26 and again this past January. I am only 27 years old and I refuse to give up…as should you! We are too young to let something like this take away our dreams. I have dreams of one day getting married and starting a family…I am not giving up on that because this terrible disease wants to “fight with me”. Please stay strong. I truly believe that they ARE going to find a cure and one day cancer doesn’t stand a chance! Keep fighting…you ARE going to win – you just need to remind yourself of that!

Hi Katie,
I wanted to write you for we both have the same diagnosis. Though, not good news it is much better being acute. My daughter is just a bit younger than you and it really makes me angry when someone so young is facing so many life altering decisions, challenges & confusion as to what is next. I was dx.@ 36 when my children were very young, and I was so scared for them, for I have always been their only parent. I have often thought of getting a 2nd opinion @ MDA. They truly are very top rated. Do you belong to the LLS? They have teleconferences online from top Leukemia docs and they will e-mail you as to time & dates and I have often watched the best of the best giving patiet updates on new tx., etc. The LLS is totally Free and you can get you local chapter by just looking online. They provide a tremendous amount of info & support. I highly recommend them. You can have as much help or support as you want/need, it’s totally up to you. They just let you know they are always there for you. I do hope & pray that your immediate doc is getting your meds under control and you are feeling better. It’s been more than 15 years since the dreaded dx., and though it has been a series of hurdles @ times, I have been very blessed and only now facing a truly big decision as to what path I should take. Feel free to post me anytime for we are all in this together. Be well, Patty

Please let us know how you are doing. Happy Belated Birthday

oopps sorry
